TV has given us some of the most dynamic, complex, and inspiring female characters who’ve redefined ambition, resilience, and success in their own way. From courtroom victories to stand-up comedy, fashion empires to football clubs, these women have broken stereotypes and rewritten the rules.

So, this International Women’s Day, we asked some of our team at BAM which fictional characters have made an impact on them and why. Here’s what they had to say:

Hannah Haffner – Partnership Manager

I’ve picked Hannah Horvath from Girls (she is massively underrated) and Midge Maisel from The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

Hannah showed us that ambition doesn’t always come with a clear roadmap. She made mistakes, many mistakes, but she also reminded us that self-expression, growth, and figuring things out on your own terms is just as important as success.

Midge wasn’t just funny, she was fearless. In a world that wasn’t ready for her, she refused to stay quiet. She’s proof that women should never shrink themselves, and that taking up space, even in male-dominated industries, is worth the fight.

Annie Bank – Founder

Gosh there are so many to choose from but if you forced me to pick two, I'd choose Rachel Green from Friends (because Friends is my ultimate childhood fave) and Rebecca Welton from Ted Lasso.

Rachel went from a runaway bride to a fashion powerhouse, proving that it’s never too late to chase your dreams. Whether it was leaving behind a privileged life, climbing the career ladder, or choosing independence over comfort, she showed us the power of reinvention and self-belief.

Rebecca went from being underestimated to becoming a football club owner! She proved that leadership doesn’t have to be cutthroat. Women can succeed by leading with authenticity, kindness, and an obsession for biscuits 😊

Toni Gaventa – Marketing and Growth Director

I’ve gone with two characters who are a bit of me. Elle Woods from Legally Blonde as I’m obsessed with pink and never conform to industry dress codes and Samantha Jones from Sex in the City... you’ll see why soon.

Elle walked into Harvard Law with a hot pink resume and walked out proving that brilliance and femininity are not mutually exclusive. She reminded us that intelligence, confidence, and kindness are a winning combination, and that you shouldn’t have to change who you are to fit in.

Samantha never let society define her. Whether it was her career, her love life, or her confidence, she lived life on her own terms. She taught us that self-assurance, loyalty, and a bold attitude can take you far. And that we all need a vibrator or two in our lives!!

Which of these women inspires you the most? 💪💖
