The Opportunity

As one of the most recognisable games of all time, Tetris® continues to engage millions of players globally across mobile platforms.

With decades of cultural relevance and a timeless gameplay mechanic, the brand holds a unique position in gaming: instantly familiar, yet constantly evolving to stay relevant for new audiences. However, in an increasingly competitive mobile landscape, there was an opportunity to create a standout moment that would re-energise the player base and drive renewed engagement.

BAM identified that moment by looking beyond the Tetris universe.

By introducing another iconic arcade property into the experience, we saw the potential to create something culturally significant, bringing together two legends in a way that had never been done before.

The Insight & Idea

The most powerful collaborations don’t just add value, they create history.

Tetris and SPACE INVADERS™ are both pillars of arcade gaming, each with a distinct identity and loyal fanbase. Yet despite their shared legacy, the two had never intersected in a playable experience.

Recognising this, BAM brought forward SPACE INVADERS as the ideal partner, complementary in tone, instantly recognisable, and rooted in the same era of gaming culture.

We developed “The Ultimate Arcade Showdown”: a limited-time in-game crossover designed to merge the strategic precision of Tetris with the escalating intensity of SPACE INVADERS.

Rather than a surface-level collaboration, the idea was to integrate both worlds directly into gameplay, creating a fresh experience that still felt true to Tetris at its core.

To further elevate the concept, we introduced a purpose-driven layer, connecting gameplay to real-world environmental impact and giving players an additional reason to engage.

The Execution

The partnership was delivered as a month-long in-game event, designed to build momentum and sustain engagement across multiple touchpoints.

The experience began with a daily login mechanic, encouraging players to return each day to unlock a series of rewards tied to the crossover, driving early and consistent engagement.

This was followed by a purpose-led phase, where players completed curated gameplay challenges that triggered real-world contributions toward wildlife protection. Personalised certificates reinforced the tangible impact of participation.

The campaign culminated in a competitive tournament, introducing a new limited-time mode that blended elements of both franchises. Players competed on a global leaderboard for exclusive rewards, creating a high-energy finale that rewarded skill and encouraged repeat play.

Throughout, the collaboration was designed to feel native to the Tetris experience, enhancing gameplay without disrupting its core mechanics.

The result was a seamless, first-of-its-kind partnership that brought a new dimension to Tetris while celebrating the legacy of arcade gaming.
